Project Engineer Co-op-Fall 2024, Multiple Locations

Job Summary:

As a Project Engineer Co-op at SteelFab, you will be introduced to several different aspects of the construction industry while working alongside our Project Management and Estimating teams on various projects. Candidates are expected to complete 3 rotations as a Project Engineer Co-op, beginning Spring 2024. You will build on your experiences and skills throughout the co-op rotations by taking on relevant responsibilities, including, but not limited to:

Essential Job Functions

First Rotation: Estimating

  1. Working with the Estimating department to solicit subcontractor pricing on new estimates
  2. Performing scope reviews of subcontractor bids and ensure conformance with the project requirements
  3. Performing material and labor take-offs using company software
  4. Preparing pricing recaps for review by Senior Estimator and VP of Preconstruction
  5. Following up with Customers on bids that have been submitted
  6. Issue requests for information (RFI’s) to clients
  7. Jobsite visits to current, local projects
  8. Fabrication shop visit to gain an understanding of the complexity and real-life size of drawings 

Second Rotation: Project Management

  1. Maintain shipping and project schedules
  2. Writing purchase orders and subcontracts to vendors
  3. Preparing and issuing change order request pricing
  4. Reviewing design drawing revisions for scope changes
  5. Jobsite visits where you will establish relationships with clients and vendors
  6. Construction drawing/modeling coordination and submittal review
  7. Work with onsite subcontractors to identify and resolve field issues
  8. Material procurement and production tracking
  9. Perform other duties as requested by management

Third Rotation: Estimating or Project Management

  • Work area will be determined based on the Co-ops performance/preference. The business needs of SteelFab at this time will be taken into consideration.

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Education Level: Sophomore

Major: Engineering, Construction Management, or related fields

Required: High level competency in PDF’s, Microsoft Project, Excel and Word, common computer skills. Valid driver’s license

Preferred: Some experience in the construction or engineering industry through work, internships, or part-time employment
