The Georgia Aquarium, with 8 million gallons of fresh and salt water tanks, is the largest building of its kind in the world. The construction site, near downtown Atlanta, had limited storage and truck staging area due to simultaneous concrete and steel activities, requiring continuous coordination of deliveries and erection. Due to corrosion concerns, the steel members in areas exposed to the water tanks required special painting requirements and galvanized bolts; the coating of the steel was warranted for 3 years and no failures were reported.
