The Ashley River Tower at MUSC consists of a 4 story diagnostic and testing center and a 9 story patient tower. The two buildings take up an entire block in downtown Charleston, SC. Our delivery trucks were staged 20 miles away and brought in one at a time.
The Johns Hopkins Hospital added a Children’s Bed Tower and an Adult Bed Tower to their downtown Baltimore campus. In addition to the two 14 story towers, SteelFab fabricated and erected 3 pedestrian bridges, an AESS canopy, and a 100 ton renovation to the existing parking garage.
The UVA hospital Bed Tower Expansion added 72 new patient rooms to the existing bed tower. The new facility filled an open area located between three existing structures and above an operating hospital lobby. The new steel framing was erected with minimal site access and lay down area. Steel erection was performed at night to minimize pedestrian exposure to construction hazards.
Roper St. Francis Hospital and Medical Office Building is a newly built facility located in Mt. Pleasant, SC. A fully wooded site was cleared with steel erection starting in November 2008 using 2 cranes.
The Claude Moore Health Education Building was a complex expansion to the existing INOVA Fairfax Hospital. The new facility filled an open service courtyard between 3 existing structures. Material storage and truck staging were extremely limited. All adjacent structures remained operational during construction.
Duke Cancer Center and North Pavilion is a six story patient tower with a six story walkway connecting new construction with an existing hospital located in the heart of Durham, NC.
Patewood Bed Tower and D&T Wing is a 4 floor radiused patient tower with a two floor development and training wing located on the outskirts of downtown Greenville, SC.
New 3 story full service hospital on critical schedule. The design had complicated geometry & design evolved concurrent with shop drawings & material procurement. SteelFab worked collaboratively with contractor & designers for decisions to cause the least schedule & cost impact during construction as design finalized.
New 9-story medical office building for multiple tenants directly across the street in urban Norfolk to a Sentara hospital. The site logistics were difficult due to small site at exit of a major thoroughfare tunnel and access coordinated with existing hospital. Multiple tenants required different elevator and fit-up changes made during the shop drawing and fabrication phases.
4,000 ton new greenfield hospital and adjoining parking deck with 80,000 SF medical office on top of the parking. 456,000 SF hospital features a “pinwheel” design with triangular skewed wings of the facility and a CEP.
The Department of Veteran’s Affairs added a two story addition to their existing downtown Charleston VA Medical Center. SteelFab of SC fabricated and installed the addition on time with limited site access and lay down room for deliveries. Work was completed without interruption
to the daily operation of the existing medical facility.
